  • Overview
While Phoenix had one of the most dominant seasons of any team in WNBA history last year, they will be without superstar Diana Taurasi in 2015.

But even with the loss of Taurasi, the Mercury are still poised to battle with the best at the top of the Western Conference. Brittney Griner will be looked upon to anchor the team as she looks to improve again in her third year as a professional. The two-time WNBA All-Star and 2014 Defensive Player of the Year has MVP potential this season.

The Mercury did make some positive moves this offseason by adding veterans Shameka Christon and Monique Currie as well as adding two Australian national team members in Cayla Francis and Leilani Mitchell to the fold. They also locked up key contributors Candice Dupree and DeWanna Bonner. For other franchises, the loss of a player like Taurasi might change the teamís mindset heading into a new season, but Phoenix -- one of the deepest teams in the league -- is showing signs that it'll attempt to make a full recovery.

Head coach Sandy Brondello will get an opportunity to add another piece with the No. 12 pick in the first round of Thursday's WNBA Draft. With the news that Amanda Zahui B. and Jewell Loyd have entered the draft early, teams picking later in the first round should get to choose from a richer talent pool than originally expected.
